Mid-summer updates and Coastal Classic
| Hi Everyone! As I write, it’s “mid-summer”. I simply can’t believe it’s almost August. Since my last note (and my apologies – I understand my publication frequency may leave a bit to be desired!), we’ve had July 4th parties, Men’s nights, Ladies’ Nights, Sachem’s Head’s sunsets, a Junior Regatta, Junior programming, Thursday Night Dinners, Sailboat racing, attempts at Sailboat racing, some moonlight kayaking, a rendezvous in Mystic, and many other activities. As I’ve said before, we’re predominantly a volunteer driven club and everything that has happened to date at SHYC this summer is initiated and led by volunteers. You know who you are! Thank you and well done! 2024 Coastal Classic There is still a lot happening in August, but the pace does slow down a bit leading up to Labor Day Weekend. One particular call out, however. The 8th edition of the COASTAL CLASSIC Regatta, which is hosted by SHYC is on Saturday, August 10th! This is the ultimate home game. Last year, we had 40 boats compete in our home waters from all over Long Island Sound! For you non-sailors, it’s also a heck of a party (a multi-year award winning party within the Eastern Connecticut Sailing Association as a matter of fact) – and participating in the shore activities is allowed and encouraged for all members. Be on the lookout for more information to join the fun! For the local teams, if you are not registered yet, please register at your earliest convenience at the following link. We’d like to get the scratch sheet as full as possible now with our local boats to encourage the traveling teams. 2024 Coastal Classic on Yacht Scoring – A complete web based regatta administration and yacht scoring program. Junior awards this year are being held on Thursday, August 8th at 6:00pm!
